What is a cavity fire barrier?

As defined in Approved Doc B , Cavities in the construction of a building provide a ready route for the spread of smoke and flame, which can present a greater danger as any spread is concealed.

Cavity Barriers reduce the potential for fire spread and should be provided to divide cavities and to close edges of cavities which can be obscured or concealed such as loft spaces.
